Just a few thoughts for Sunday.....

Here are my random thoughts for Sunday, February 1, 2009.......

First and foremost...... GO STEELERS!!

Over 1 billion chicken wings will be eaten today on Super Bowl Sunday! When I was young, my brothers and I would go to my aunt Dede's house on Super Bowl Sunday to watch the game and she would make a big pot of Chop Suey. Why Chop Suey on Super Bowl Sunday? I have no idea but it became a tradition. I suppose it was because my aunt made really delicious food but it was only things you could make in massive quantities.....like chili, chop suey and homemade mac and cheese! I miss that tradition.

French Chocolat Box with hand sewn felt candies .......just posted on Ebay....click here.
Toodee the studio monster is ready for spring!!!!!

A special box and felt candies for my friend Jacque in California!

I hope you have a wonderful Sunday......it's partly sunny here and almost 40 degrees which is a welcome change from 14 degrees!

The Spring Pie Safe

My oak pie safe is one of my favorite pieces of furniture I own. The outside inserts in the door are 3 sheets of copper with a wheat pattern punched into them, however I change the display in the pie safe seasonally and for holidays so I keep the door open most of the time. One day when the door was open I asked my husband, "do you think those wood inserts come out of the inside of the door?" and the next thing you know he had the drill going taking them out and I was painting on them. Now the 3 inside door inserts get changed seasonally as well as contents! I love decorating it and most of the things I have either made my self, bought or got as gifts from friends. I hope you enjoy viewing the spring contents of the pie safe and the door inserts! I'll post close ups of the contents tomorrow.

Yellow Makes Me Feel Happy!

So I've been doing some more spring decorating since the weather has been slowly warming up here (around 60 degrees). As I arrange and rearrange with wreckless abandonment and get wild and crazy with the artificial tulips, I'm analyzing colors. Here is my earth shattering conclusion........you ready........it's deep........get ready..........here it is........."the color yellow makes me feel happy and light"! I think it's because it makes me think of the warmth of the sun and also my Gram, whose favorite color was yellow. Whoahhhhhhhhh, I told you it was deep! So my question to you is this.......what color makes you feel happy?

And the winner is............

There is a winner of the "What is the pink cone going to be?" contest. The winner is Dr. Gregg, who I hope checks this blog today so he knows he's is a winner! He is currently on his southern medical lecture tour (and fishing tour too!). Congrats Dr. Gregg, now you have another piece to add to your growing folk art collection.........I hope this one makes it to your office display case!

Vintage paper party hats have caught my eye lately, whether it's pictures of them like the ones at ArtChix Studio in paper collage sheets or these new-wave party hats at Wacky Wendy's Queen of Hats website or Joann Sayler's vintage inspired Easter Hat, Easter Village Hat. I will be making more paper hats in the future now that I've got inspiration from these hats!

The chicken head is made out of paperclay, the cone is covered with multiple
layers of pink tissue paper and is decorated with decorative papers.

Paperclay + Styrofoam = Spring Bunny

Ohhhhhhh the snow is melting and I think I caught a wiff of "spring" today.....you know the smell? It was ever so fleeting but it was that fresh smell of nature coming awake after a long winters' nap. I was inspired! Inspired by the Polkadot Pixie's paperclay creations and inspired by that "wiff of spring". So I broke out the paperclay, styrofoam, acrylic paint and hand creme....wow does that paperclay dry your hands out! May I introduce you to Sherman the Spring Bunny...........I dig those slippers! Sherman likes them too!

Sherman is wearing a tissue paper collar with paper flowers and glitter.

Pretty Things That Speak of Spring

Holy Frozen Underwear Batman! It is so cold here in Western Pennsylvania......7 degrees to be exact with a windchill of -17 degrees! Very, very, very cold! Like a said yesterday in my blog..."just a good time to stay in and craft"! However, I did venture out yesterday for a brief time and bought a few pretty little things.......pastel colored jordan almonds, a paper mache' Easter Bunny and a plate with a beautiful peony and humming bird on it for my mom. Now, what do all of these things have in common?.....hmmmmmm......are you thinking?.....yes! that's right they all have to do with warmer weather! It must have been subliminal thinking on my part.....spring is in the depths of my mind like daffodil bulbs in the depths of the earth just waiting to spring to the surface! I was at Lowe's yesterday in the 3 degree weather and I found myself transfixed in front of the spring/summer bulbs....dalias...cannas....elephant ears.....glads....I was entranced as the cold wind blew across my butt everytime the door opened and closed snapped my back to reality within a few minutes!

Here are the pretty spring things.............
