Seven LIttle Rabbits

The other day I found this book in a box of old books that was going to be thrown out. I flipped through it and really liked the illustrations which prompted me to look at the illustrator and I was happy to find out it was Barbara Cooney. She wrote and also illustrated one of my favorite children's books, "Miss Rumphius". The true story of a lady in Maine who spent her whole life casting lupine seeds about and making the world a more beautiful place, which we all could use! It's a beautiful story and one that I never get tired of reading to the children.

Anyway..........getting back to the book, "Seven Little Rabbits".........the illustrations are so sweet of the tiny rabbits all dressed up and walking down the road, I knew I just had to use them in my pendants. Below are some of the mini collages made with the illustrations. They have not been soldered around the edges yet.

The Spring Pie Safe

My oak pie safe is one of my favorite pieces of furniture I own. The outside inserts in the door are 3 sheets of copper with a wheat pattern punched into them, however I change the display in the pie safe seasonally and for holidays so I keep the door open most of the time. One day when the door was open I asked my husband, "do you think those wood inserts come out of the inside of the door?" and the next thing you know he had the drill going taking them out and I was painting on them. Now the 3 inside door inserts get changed seasonally as well as contents! I love decorating it and most of the things I have either made my self, bought or got as gifts from friends. I hope you enjoy viewing the spring contents of the pie safe and the door inserts! I'll post close ups of the contents tomorrow.

Yellow Makes Me Feel Happy!

So I've been doing some more spring decorating since the weather has been slowly warming up here (around 60 degrees). As I arrange and rearrange with wreckless abandonment and get wild and crazy with the artificial tulips, I'm analyzing colors. Here is my earth shattering's deep........get it is........."the color yellow makes me feel happy and light"! I think it's because it makes me think of the warmth of the sun and also my Gram, whose favorite color was yellow. Whoahhhhhhhhh, I told you it was deep! So my question to you is this.......what color makes you feel happy?

It's Spring.....Oh really!?!?!?!

The calendar says it's officially spring, however I'm not so sure! Today it alternated between what can best be described as "chunky gobs of rain" and snow flakes. So what can be done to chase away winter and cheer on the arrival of spring? If in doubt......I say.....decorate! I have a pencil tree that I keep up in my house year around and I decorate it seasonally and for holidays. Now, I do have friends who think it's crazy to do this but it makes me happy! I finished decorating it for spring tonight. The majority of the ornaments I made last year. Does anybody else out there in blogland have a tree they decorate seasonally?

Maple Syrup Time!

Well it's that time of year.........maple syrup making time in Western Pennsylvania! Last weekend my husband and I went up to Pymatuning State Park and on one of the side roads there was a huge grove of maple trees which had been tapped for the syrup. It was a beautiful day but cold.....brrrrrrrr! I love the look of the old beat up gray buckets hanging on those rough barked maple trees. When I see them I know that spring is just around the corner!
